Chiropractors in Canberra : What to Expect
First Visit
If you’re new to chiropractic, your first experience will be with our well trained office staff. You will be greeted and asked to fill out some forms including a brief history of your complaint. You will need to set aside about an hour for this first visit.
If you have no complaint and just want to be checked, we will not cut any corners and still examine you as if you had a presenting problem. After the forms are filled in, you will be offered to watch an introductory DVD on chiropractic. After this, your Canberra chiropractor will come to meet you and take you into the examination room.
Examination
As a rule we don’t need you get changed into special gowns, however occasionally this may be required. The examination will include listening to your story, examining you for medical red flags. If none are present, we will examine you for spinal subluxations. This may include taking some x-rays, which we do at this clinic. After I have read them myself, we will send the x-rays to a radiologist for a second opinion. If yours is a straightforward case, you will be adjusted on your first visit.
Adjustment
I will offer you what I think is the best technique to adjust the spine. It could be very light adjustments with an instrument, a special drop-piece table or done by hand. In other words I will offer you a choice. After the adjustment with the chiropractor, you will need to make further appointments with Elena or Robin. Payments for our services can be with cash, cheque and EFTPOS. If you have private insurance, you will be able to claim on the spot with our HICAPS facility.
Second Visit
On the second visit you should allow for about 45 minutes. You will be greeted by Robin or Elena and offered to watch a Report of Findings DVD which will prepare you for the information that I will be giving you, including your schedule of care.
Next I will greet you and take you to the room that you went to on your first visit and explain the findings from your first visit. This will included an estimate of your care over the next few weeks. We will also discuss any questions you have. Once you have an understanding of the care required, you will be asked to lie on the table so the chiropractor can analyze and adjust the spinal subluxations. Sometimes we will need to look at your skull, jaw or the extremities as well as the spine. So don’t be surprised if your wrist or ankle is examined and adjusted too!
After this second adjustment you will need to make appointments for your schedule of care with Elena or Robin. The visits after this will be regular with no special requirements.
A Typical Office Visit
A regular visit will mean that you will taken to either of the adjusting rooms and asked to take off jewelry, coats, wallets, keys etc so that you will be comfortable on the chiropractic table. As a rule shoes are left on. The time for the regular visit will be 10 to 15 minutes.
